Attendance

We monitor a range of attendance data including tracking the children below the Academy attendance target of 96%.  A child with attendance below 90% is considered a persistent absentee by the Government.  If your child’s attendance is causing concern you will be invited in for a meeting to see how the Academy can support you and your child to improve their attendance, following the guidance set out by Norfolk County Council and the Department for Education.

We are working hard to improve attendance. We are very grateful for the support of all parents in making sure their children come to the academy every day. We know that there is a very real impact on the children’s learning if their attendance drops even a little.
 

If your child has a minor illness such as a cough, cold or headache it is generally best to send them into the academy. Often once they are with their friends they feel much better. Of course, if we have any concerns about your child’s health or wellbeing we will always contact you.

If your child has a sickness bug they are able to return to school 48 hours after the last bout of sickness.

If your child is unwell you should contact the academy on the first day of their absence, as we need to keep a record of reasons for absence.

We recognise that if a child achieved 90% in a test that we would all be really happy with that result; however if a child has 90% attendance that is the equivalent of half a day missed each week. Over the academy year this is 4 weeks of learning that has been missed!

Holidays

The 2006 Regulations in Education make it clear that Principals may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.
